What is Corduroy?

Corduroy or Cord is a textured woven fabric with raised ribs that run parallel to the selvage. The soft ribs are formed by shaving the threads on that side of the fabric. The back side of the Cord is flat and smooth. The name originates from the French words 'Cord Du Roi' and was particularly popular in the 17th and 18th century for the uniforms of French royal servants.

What is a Wale?

The wale count indicates the amount of ribs per inch. The higher the number the finer the rib.

Babycord is what we call this really narrow ribbed 21 wale corduroy.The lower the number of wales, the wider and bigger the ribs. This really defines the look of this fabric. Our babycord is perfect for more delicate garments like dresses, blouses and baby clothes.
